Kalangan Foundation Hosts Two-Day Kathak Workshop Led by Vidushi Mamta Maharaj
New Delhi: The Kalangan Foundation successfully organized a two-day
Kathak workshop on May 16 and 17. The intensive workshop was held
under the expert guidance of the renowned Kathak exponent Vidushi
Mamta Maharaj, who is the daughter of the legendary Kathak maestro,
Pandit Birju Maharaj.

Students and Kathak learners participated in the workshop with immense
enthusiasm. They received invaluable training in the nuances of
bhava-abhivyakti (facial expressions and emotions), laya-taal (rhythm
and tempo), and traditional Kathak presentation. During the sessions,
Vidushi Mamta Maharaj taught two exceptionally beautiful compositions
originally created by Pandit Birju Maharaj: “Hori Khelein Hain
Girdhari” and “Baran Chhabi Shyam Sundar”.
The workshop provided the participants with a rare opportunity to
closely experience the rich tradition of the Lucknow Gharana and the
artistic legacy of Maharaj Ji. The students deeply appreciated her
effortless and graceful teaching style, detailed explanations, and
inspiring guidance.

The event was organized under the direction of Shalu Shrivastava, the
Founder and Director of the Kalangan Foundation. The foundation aims
to promote Indian classical dance and provide students with
high-quality training opportunities.
The workshop concluded on a successful note, marked by the immense
enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, and heartfelt appreciation of all the
participants.
